Glucobay® – the most extensively investigated and widely prescribed α-glucosidase inhibitor – reduces post prandial plasma glucose excursions by delaying the absorption of carbohydrate from the small intestine. Glucobay® is an effective first-line therapy for patients with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes, and induces a further improvement in glycemic control when used in combination with other antidiabetes agents.

It is therefore a convenient and effective long-term option for the treatment of type 2 diabetes, with a potential added benefit of reducing cardiovascular risk (Hanefeld et al. Eur Heart J 2004).

An effective glycemic control and compliance are critical in patients with type 2 diabetes to prevent disease progression and to reduce the risk of cardiovascular and other complications. In addition to information on Glucobay®, this website provides some material and services that may be helpful for you to improve patient education for a better compliance.
